Repentance means the opportunity of a new start, the chance to correct
what we leave crooked, to fill that which is wanting in one’s life.
       -- Abba Hillel Silver
Right actions for the future are the best apologies
for the wrong ones in the past.

Call to Worship Sue Buffum

Leader:  We have left many important pursuits to gather here.
People:  Together, we begin a season of self-examination.
We begin a humble walk with God through Lent.
Leader:  This is a time for building spiritual discipline.
People:  We seek to follow in the steps of Jesus.
We want to walk in the path where Christ leads.
Leader:  May God empower us here with genuine righteousness.
Let patience, kindness and truthful speak prevail.
All:  We seek knowledge and the will to live by it.
We seek community and the capacity to share it.

Lord’s Prayer (“debts/debtors”)
Our Father, who art in heaven,
      Hallowed be Thy name.
      Thy kingdom come,
      Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
      And forgive us our debts
      As we forgive our debtors;
And lead us not into temptation,
      But deliver us from evil,
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power,
       and the glory forever. Amen

This morning’s prelude, offertory and postlude are from J.S. Bach’s Orgelbüchlein (The Little Organ Book), which was written around 1714 “for the glory of God and the edification of my neighbor”. Bach’s original plan was to write a set of one-hundred and sixty-four chorale preludes (pieces based on a pre-existing hymn tune, or chorale) spanning the liturgical year, but he only completed forty-six. The pieces may have been intended for pedagogical use, and they are technically difficult for the most part, especially because each hand and the feet are completely independent of one another—like three different instruments playing in counterpoint.

Join us on Saturday, February 23rd at 8:00 p.m. for the second Lile Hall Concert Series performance of the season !The Chatham-Wood Duo, our own Holly Chatham (piano) and Patrick Wood (violin), will be performing works by Bach, Mozart and Brahms. We hope to see you and your friends at this concert of beautiful chamber music !Tickets are $15 ($5 for students) at the door, and include a wine reception at intermission.

Hedy Tukey Voice Recital: Christ Church member and soloist Hedy Tukey will offer a recital in Lile Hall on Sunday February 17 at 4:00, entitled “Love’s Philosophy”. It will feature songs by Fauré, Debussy, Delius, Liszt, Schubert, Rachmaninov, Finzi and Granados, based on poems by Verlaine, Hugo, Goethe, Hardy and Shelley. The first half of the recital will offer pairs of songs by different composers based on the same poem. A reception with refreshments will follow. Suggested donation: $10.00 toward cost of refreshments and accompanist.

Are you relatively new to Christ Church and would like to meet a few people and find out a little more about us? Have you been attending services here and there and would like a non-threatening way to get some questions answered?

We’re having a get together just for you. You are invited for hors d’ oeuvres and wine on Sunday, March 9th from 4-6 pm at the home of Julie Keenan and Jesse Hermann at 45 Blackburn Place, Summit. Call Carol Angle or email at .

Some of the leaders of the church will be there and so will Rev. Chuck and Rev. Julie. At a minimum, it will be a nice evening.
