Call to Worship Sally Weggeland

Leader:  O, God, open our hearts.
People:  Our preoccupation with ourselves,
Leader:  O, God open our hearts.
People:  Our lustful imaginations, our secret ambitions,
Leader:  O God, open our hearts.
People:  The buried grudge, the half-acknowledged enmity,
Leader:  O God, open our hearts.
People:  The bitterness of some past loss not yet offered to you,
Leader:  O God, open our hearts.
People:  The private comforts to which we cling,
Leader:  O God, open our hearts.
People:  The fear of failure which saps our initiative,
Leader:  Oh God, open our hearts.
All:  The pessimism that is an insult to your will and power.

Congregation:
We receive this child as a new person in Christ. We offer our understanding and support as she explores life. We enfold her in our love, seeking together to grow in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and all people. We join with Suzanne and Olaf in telling the Gospel in our midst, so that their child and all children may live with us for Christ, showing forth his love for all people.
Song of Dedication
  Laila, we greet you on this glad morning;
We are so happy that you are here.
Our fondest wishes go with you always:
God guard and keep you all through the years.

Lord’s Prayer (“debts/debtors”)
Our Father, who art in heaven,
      Hallowed be Thy name.
      Thy kingdom come,
      Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
      And forgive us our debts
      As we forgive our debtors;
And lead us not into temptation,
      But deliver us from evil,
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power,
       and the glory forever. Amen

LATE BREAKING ANNOUNCEMENTS
(More announcements are in the monthly newsletter, available in the narthex)

Here is today’s Sunday school schedule:

2-3 year olds Room B-202

Pre-K –5th gradersAssembly in Room B-206

6th – 12th gradersWorship

This morning’s prelude and choral introit are both based on the same hymn tune. It is interesting to note that the choral introit was written in 1992, whereas the prelude was set by a Baroque composer from the 1600s. This is a small example of the rich history of music in the church. Beautiful tunes and poignant themes speak to us today as they did to humanity hundreds of years ago.

Join us on Saturday, February 23rd at 8:00 p.m. for the second Lile Hall Concert Series performance of the sea son! The Chatham-Wood Duo, our own Holly Chatham (piano) and Patrick Wood (violin), will be performing works by Bach, Mozart and Brahms. We hope to see you and your friends at this concert of beautiful chamber music! Tickets are $15 at the door, and include a wine reception at intermission.

Deacons Meeting: The Deacons will meet February 27 at 7:30 pm.

SOS: With the beginning of Lent, the BWF has traditionally kicked off its SOS (Sundays of Sharing) Campaign. Donations collected enable the board to extend its outreach capabilities beyond that funding by Executive Board. Examples are disaster aid to relief organizations, special agency projects, start up funds for new agencies, and other critical needs identified throughout the year. Thank you for your consideration in this once a year outreach effort. Please help to keep our tradition of sharing strong.

Development Committee: We are exploring putting together a “Development Committee” to help Christ Church increase the Endowment Fund through some long term financial planning methods that are currently available. These can enable our congregation to strengthen the future financial position of Christ Church for the generations to come. Anyone wishing to assist this important project please call George Ross at 973-701-6868.

Hedy Tukey Voice Recital: Christ Church member and soloist Hedy Tukey will offer a recital in Lile Hall this afternoon, February 17, at 4:00, entitled “Love’s Philosophy”. It will feature songs by Fauré, Debussy, Delius, Liszt, Schubert, Rachmaninov, Finzi and Granados, based on poems by Verlaine, Hugo, Goethe, Hardy and Shelley. The first half of the recital will offer pairs of songs by different composers based on the same poem. A reception with refreshments will follow. Suggested donation: $10.00 toward cost of refreshments and accompanist.

Are you relatively new to Christ Church and would like to meet a few people and find out a little more about us? Have you been attending services here and there and would like a non-threatening way to get some questions answered?

We’re having a get together just for you. You are invited for hors d’ oeuvres and wine on Sunday, March 9th from 4-6 pm at the home of Julie Keenan and Jesse Hermann at 45 Blackburn Place, Summit. Call Carol Angle or email at .

Some of the leaders of the church will be there and so will Rev. Chuck and Rev. Julie. At a minimum, it will be a nice evening.
