Meditative Reflections
A suppressed grief chokes and seethes within, multiplying its strength. -- Ovid

Reconciliation is not weakness or cowardice. It demands courage, nobility, generosity, sometimes heroism, an overcoming of oneself rather than of one’s adversary. -- Pope Paul VI
Ringing of the Church Bell
Prelude Wir danken dir, Herr Jesu Christ, J.S. Bach
dass du für uns gestorben bist BWV 623
We thank you, Lord Jesus Christ, that you died for us
and have made us, through your precious blood
just and good in the sight of God.
And we pray, true Man and God, by your holy five bloody wounds,
that you free us from eternal death
and give us solace in our last hour.

LATE BREAKING ANNOUNCEMENTS
(More announcements are in the monthly newsletter, available in the narthex)

This morning's piano trios are by Robert Schumann (1847) and Dmitri Shostakovich (1944). Schumann wrote this trio, one of three, in Dresden after a period of creative inactivity while on concert tour with his wife, Clara, who was composing a piano trio at the same time. The movement you'll hear today is the third movement of the trio. Shostakovich's trio is an uncanny work of large proportions. In its finale, which won't be played today, he incorporated Jewish melodies. His use of these melodies is often seen as a memorial to the victims of the holocaust, since the final movement is introduced by the somber passacaglia, which is the movement that you will hear today. A passacaglia is a musical form distinguished by its repetition of a chord sequence over which melodies are woven. The trio was dedicated to Shostakovich's best friend, who died a month after the trio's completion.

Good Friday Walk: On March 21, children of all ages are invited to participate in the Community Good Friday Walk, which begins at 9:30 a.m. at Central Presbyterian Church, and ends at approximately 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church. From Central Presbyterian Church, the group walks to St. Teresa's Roman Catholic Church, then to the Monastery, to Christ Church and then to St. John's Lutheran Church, watching a puppet show and various dramatic pieces along the way. Our own Janet Quartarone and Mike Mooney will play the roles of Mary and Pilate at this event. This is a wonderful opportunity for children and their parents to hear the stories of the final week of Jesus' life !

Our annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Easter Sunday between the 2 services (approx 10:45am). There will be 3 separate hunts: O-3 yr olds in the courtyard. 4 yrs-1st grade in the playground. 2nd - 5th grade in the front lawn of the white house behind the church. Bring your own basket.

The Resources Board wants you to know that we have not yet reached our pledge goal. We are close but need some additional funds. It is not too late to pledge for 2008 or to add to your pledge. We thank all of you who have supported the 2008 campaign. Resources Board, Jim Carson, Chair

All Girls Youth Group will be meeting on Sunday evening, March 16 from 5-7 pm at 48 Blackburn Place, the DeSanto residence, for a “Spa Night.”

Middle and high school boys will meet at Christ Church for a Summit Scavenger Hunt from 5pm - 6:30pm.

Do you get email from Christ Church? We maintain a congregation email list at Christ Church which is used by staff to send out 2-3 emails a week, typically, containing breaking news, schedule changes, plans for the upcoming weekend, and requests for volunteer help. If you thought you were on this list but haven’t received email lately, chances are your email software (Outlook or Outlook express, for example) or your ISP (Verizon, Comcast, AOL…) is blocking spam more vigorously than before and has begun blocking this email. We can help !Our Information Technology (IT) Committee can help you adjust spam-blocking filters. Just ask Chuck, Julie, or Paul at coffee hour, or drop an email to or . If you’ve never been on the congregation email list, we’d love to add you – please let us know. By the way, we also have a Prayer email list that is an extension of the prayer concerns portion of Sunday worship, and everyone is welcome to join that list, as well.
