Call to Worship Claire Rupkey Liz Jefferson

Leader:  Grace to you and peace from the One who is and who was and who is to come.
People:  We gather in the name of Jesus Christ, the faithful witness and firstborn of the dead.
Leader:  God calls us to proclaim our faith, to put our trust in reality as yet unseen.
People:  In Christ we know the peace of God and freedom from the fears that bind us.
Leader:  Receive the Holy Spirit and recognize your call. God meets and empowers you now.
All:  We know God has expectations of us; we want to hear and respond.

Joy in the Morning Chancel Choir Natalie Sleeth

      There’ll be joy in the morning on that day,
      For the light of dawn, the dark is gone;
      There’ll be peace and contentment evermore,
      Every heart and voice will then rejoice.
      And the glory of the Lord will shine,
      Will bring the truth divine.
      There’ll be love and forgiveness everywhere
      And the way of the Lord will that day be restored.

      Poem by George Herbert
      Rise heart; the Lord is Risen. Sing his praise
      Without delays,
      Who takes thee by the hand, that thou likewise
      With him mayest rise;
      That, as his death calcined thee to dust
      His life may make thee gold, and much more, just.

      With all thy art.
      The cross taught all wood to resound his name,
      Who bore the same.
      His stretched sinews taught all strings, what key
      Is best to celebrate this most high day.
      Consort both heart and lute, and twist a song
      Pleasant and long:
      Or, since all music is but three parts vied
      And multiplied,
      O let thy blessed Spirit bear a part,
      And make up our defects with his sweet art.

Choral Anthem My Eternal King Jane M. Marshall

      Poem: Anon. 17th c. Latin, transl. Rev. E. Caswall
      My God, I love Thee
      Not because I hope for heaven thereby,
      Nor yet because who love Thee not
      Must die eternally.
      Thou, o my Jesus, didst me upon the cross embrace;
      For me didst nails and spear, and manifold disgrace.
      Why, then why,
      O blessed Jesus Christ, should I not love Thee well?
      Not for the hope of winning heaven
      Or of escaping hell.
      Not with the hope of gaining aught, not seeking a reward;
      But as Thyself hast loved me, o everloving Lord!
      Even so I love Thee, and will love, and in Thy praise will sing;
      Solely because Thou art my God, and my Eternal King.
Service of Holy Communion
Love is Come Again Chancel Choir Old French tune
arr. Parker/Shaw
      Poem by J.M.C. Crum
      Now the green blade riseth from the buried grain,
      Wheat that in the dark earth many days has lain;
      Love lives again, that with the dead has been:
      Love is come again, like wheat that springeth green.
      Forth He came at Easter, like the risen grain,
      He that for three days in the grave had lain;
      Quick from the dead my risen Lord is seen:
      Love is come again, like wheat that springeth green.

      Thinking that never He would wak again,
      Laid in the earth like grain that sleeps unseen,
      Love is come again, like wheat that springeth green.

      Thy touch can call us back to life again.
      Fields of our hearts that dead and bare had been;
      Love is come again, like wheat that springeth green.
