(B-205) 5th graders – The Prophet’s Playhouse (B-210) 6th and 7th graders – Lile Hall (C-106) 9th thru 12th graders – Conference Room (B-120) Adult Education on October 5: Dr. Roger Strair will speak on “Diagnosis and Treatment of Blood Cancers.” Dr. Strair is Director, Hematologic Malignancies, and Associate Director Bone Marrow Transplantation, The Cancer Institute of New Jersey in New Brunswick. Dr. Strair will be introduced by Deborah Halpern, MSW, ACSW, Director of Patient Services of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She will give an overview of the Society. “Shalom: Peace and Justice Workshop” for children grades K-5 will be held on Thursday, October 9 (Yom Kippur) from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Union Congregational Church in Montclair, NJ. The cost is only $10.00, which includes lunch! Our own Rev. Julie Yarborough will be one of the leaders of the workshop that day, and we hope to have a number of children from Christ Church participate. The focus will be on how children can be agents for peace and justice in the world. For more information or a registration form, please contact Rev. Yarborough at 908-273-5549 or Nicaragua Container Packing, October 11: On the morning of Saturday, October 11, Christ Church will pack and label its donated goods for the PeaceWorks Nicaragua container shipment. Please bring your donations, 9 a.m. – noon, to the garage of the Oberst House, on New England Ave. just past the church parking lot. This time, if you can stay awhile to help pack, please bring a lunch item to share: we’ll turn it into a picnic event. Special requests this time from Inhijambia (children’s rescue project): 1) Electronic keyboard and a microphone for the rapidly expanding music program; 2) School supplies (esp. composition pads, other notebooks). As in the past, gently used donations items in the following categories will be greatly appreciated: 1) – Bedsheets, pillow cases, lightweight blankets. 2) – Summer-weight shoes and clothing, for ages infant – through adult 3) – Baby cribs and strollers (please no car seats: benefi- – ciaries don’t have cars!) 4) – TVs, radios, cassette or CD players 5) – Shelving, any type 6) – Preteen and teen baseball uniforms 7) – Furniture (e.g. desk, table) for administrative offices 8) – Sturdy bags: school book bags, diaper bags, tote bags 9) – Toys - to be distributed as Christmas presents 10) – Kitchen ware: pots, pans, dishes 11) – Disposable diapers (required when a baby is hospital- – lized) 12) – Sturdy, thick-wheeled bicycles 13) – Wheelchairs, walkers, bathing chairs The following is a comment from Inhijambia director Mirna Sánchez: "Our new Welcome Center attracts more young street kids every day. With the beds you so generously donated last year, we've created a dormitory where youngsters can spend the night safely -- so we have an ongoing need for used-but-still-useful bed linens. We've also installed showers for the kids, so gently used towels and washcloths are wonderful donations. Thanks for everything you send. What would we do without you?!?"
