Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.

But deliver us from evil,
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory forever. Amen

There will be an Adult Education session at 10:45 in Barnwell Hall on the state of the economy: It will be led by Chris Rupkey (Chief Financial Economist at Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi), Dennis Bushe (head of Risk management at Prudential) and David Bunting (Brave Asset investments). The presentation part will be short and the opportunity to ask your questions will be full. Again, this would be a good Sunday to invite a neighbor that needs to talk these issues through.

The Deacons will be meeting on Wednesday, October 1 at 7:30 PM.

Adult Education on October 5: Dr. Roger Strair will speak on “Diagnosis and Treatment of Blood Cancers.” Dr. Strair is Director, Hematologic Malignancies, and Associate Director Bone Marrow Transplantation, The Cancer Institute of New Jersey in New Brunswick. Dr. Strair will be introduced by Deborah Halpern, MSW, ACSW, Director of Patient Services of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She will give an overview of the Society.

“Shalom: Peace and Justice Workshop” for children grades K-5 will be held on Thursday, October 9 (Yom Kippur) from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Union Congregational Church in Montclair, NJ. The cost is only $10.00, which includes lunch! Our own Rev. Julie Yarborough will be one of the leaders of the workshop that day, and we hope to have a number of children from Christ Church participate. The focus will be on how children can be agents for peace and jus

tice in the world. For more information or a registration form, please contact Rev. Yarborough at 908-273-5549 or

Nicaragua Container Packing, October 11: On the morning of Saturday, October 11, Christ Church will pack and label its donated goods for the PeaceWorks Nicaragua container shipment. Please bring your donations, 9 a.m. – noon, to the garage of the Oberst House, on New England Ave. just past the church parking lot. This time, if you can stay awhile to help pack, please bring a lunch item to share: we’ll turn it into a picnic event.

Special requests this time from Inhijambia (children’s rescue project): 1) Electronic keyboard and a microphone for the rapidly expanding music program; 2) School supplies (esp. composition pads, other notebooks).

As in the past, gently used donated items in the following categories will be greatly appreciated:

1)  –  Bedsheets, pillow cases, lightweight blankets.

2)  –  Summer-weight shoes and clothing, for ages infant

 –  through adult

3)  –  Baby cribs and strollers (please no car seats: benefi-

 –  ciaries don’t have cars!)

4)  –  TVs, radios, cassette or CD players

5)  –  Shelving, any type

6)  –  Preteen and teen baseball uniforms

7)  –  Furniture (e.g. desk, table) for administrative offices

8)  –  Sturdy bags: school book bags, diaper bags, tote bags

9)  –  Toys - to be distributed as Christmas presents

10)  –  Kitchen ware: pots, pans, dishes

11)  –  Disposable diapers (required when a baby is hospital-

 –  lized)

12)  –  Sturdy, thick-wheeled bicycles

13)  –  Wheelchairs, walkers, bathing chairs

The following is a comment from Inhijambia director Mirna Sánchez: “We’re always grateful to receive a crib or child’s bed. In the vast majority of the families we help, children don’t have their own beds. Many have no option but a shared bed with the adults of the household.”
