Call to Worship Rick Morey

Leader:  God, I give you thanks for all things purple -
People:  For sunsets and thunderstorm August nights,
Leader:  For lupine like freedom blowing above blue ocean,
People:  For the scent of lilac, and the transience of violet, and the exotic luxury of orchid,
Leader:  For advent candles that burn waiting and hope,
People:  For a beautiful dress of childhood and a postcard from a friend,
Leader:  For one amethyst earring, an eggplant and a plum,
People:  Grandmother’s faded lavender apron and satin ribbon tied around a small gift,
Leader:  For the common cup of wine and the purple taste of holiness in tiny glasses,
All:  For the color of beauty when I have recognized beauty in myself.
Prayer of Invocation Rick Morey

Service of Baptism for Cameron Zulauf
Presented by Monica and Brad
We receive this child as a new person in Christ. We offer our understanding and support as he explores life. We enfold him in our love, seeking together to grow in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and all people. We join with Monica and Brad in telling the Gospel in our midst, so that their child and all children may live with us for Christ, showing forth his love for all people.

  Cameron, we greet you on this glad morning;

Thy will be done

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power,

Adult Ed Health Care Panel this Sunday: Our Adult Education hour will answer your questions on health care. We’ve got a panel of physicians and others who work in health care that will answer questions that you might have about the current health care proposals and what is at stake. We aren’t planning to propose policies to Congress and we certainly aren’t going to yell at each other, but it is amazing what you can learn by hearing people speak that are intimately involved with the system as it stands right now. We’ve asked each of them to respond to your questions out of their experience and expertise. I’m undoubtedly forgetting someone but these are among those that will be there: Dr. Sonja Gray, Dr. Chuck Gelber, Dr. Maurice Ferrante, Dr. Jeannie Ferrante, Sandy Johanson, PhD. and Professor Janis Barry, PhD. In addition, we have a couple other health care providers in the audience.

Welcome to our new members! The following people joined Christ Church as new members last Sunday, October 18:

Rob Mathis, 390 Morris Avenue, Summit, NJ, 07901

Megan & Christopher Humphrey and their children Emma and Colin, 11 Oaklawn Road, Summit, NJ, 07901.

Pamela Crowley and her son Jack, 60 Lenox Road, Summit, NJ 07901

Beth & Jim Baxley, 11 Ashland Road, Summit, NJ 07901.

Liz Jefferson, 22 Brunswick Road, Montclair, NJ 07042.

Can you help? Jeanne Fellows would very much like to attend choir practice but she cannot leave her husband Steve who is recovering from some medical procedures and has difficulty getting around. The Deacons are putting together a roster of people willing to sit occasionally with Steve. The Fellows live in Summit and choir practice is from 7.30pm to 9.00pm on Wednesdays. If you can help, please contact Simon Thomson via email at or 908 522 6577.
